5 am first

I was torn from a deep sleep by a thud, and then crying. Ali had slipped and fallen while coming to get into bed with me. I turned on the light to check out the damage, and found a bloody chin. I would probably have just gone back to sleep once he calmed down, but H took a look and thought we should head to ER- so we did. That's such a difficult decision- isn't it? Is it bad enough to go in, or is it parental concern in overdrive? When we got there, to a mercifully empty waiting room, the woman behind the desk came out to take a look and pronounced he needed stitches.
So I found myself, for the first time ever, taking my child to the emergency room. It really wasn't as bad as I expected. We went back quickly, the wound was cleaned and looked at by a dr., and then we just had to wait while the numbing medicine took effect. Ali was a trouper- watched t.v. while we waited- then got wrapped up in a sheet like a burrito and stitched up- three whole stitches. I don't think he felt anything until the last one, but he didn't scream and cry. I couldn't watch- just held his foot when started getting restless.
Once home we fell into bed until afternoon. Of course, he was the first awake. Luckily L was at a friend's house for the night.
I've heard that boys are more er prone, and, much as I dislike stereotypes, I have to wonder.
If I can figure out how to download fotos from a phone, I'll post a picture of the little trooper.

glad to hear he's on the mend! must have been scary-but he'll have a daring story and potential impressive scar for later! we loved hearing all my dad's "how i got this gnarly scar" stories growing up!
