We headed off to the donut shop a little late yesterday, and I wanted to prepare the kids for possible disappointment. "They may be out of donuts," I said.
"Let's pray, Ali," was Leila's response.
In the rearview mirror I could see her clasping her hands in front of her and then fervently praying that we would be on time for donuts.
We were. "It's because we prayed," was Leila's response.
And I wonder at what point I teach her that praying is not about just asking for things that we want.
She did have some nice thank yous for God at bedtime last night.
