Ali was wide awake (still is as I write this an hour later) but Leila had fallen asleep, warmly cacooned in the comforter next to me. Our neighbors headed home much earlier after shared pizza and sparklers, worn out from their travels. And we waited for the New Year.
At five minutes to I woke up a groggy Leila, who quickly pulled herself together. We found Times Square on t.v. and I got out the bubbly. Cozied up in bed, the four of us counted down with the t.v. crowd, and then toasted the New Year. Ali finished with "Happy New Year World!"
And that's what I wish for all of you- blessings, happiness, and hope.
