I couldn't resist asking the woman who had just explained what she did here at my college where she was from. "Jamaica," was her reply. I had thought I heard a trace of the West Indies. The other guy in the room chimes in- "My parents are from Jamaica," before I could, so I said- "MY parents are from Jamaica." He thought I was joking, but I assured him that my father really is. So we had a good chat about patois and the Island. Mostly they talked and I listened. But she knew Highgate and Cristiana.
I said I'd bring my dad to meet her some time.
