Higher Math

Ali: 1 and 2 are soft numbers, and three is hard as an apple. 4, 5, and 6 are soft numbers. And 7, 8, and 9 are soft numbers. But 10 is hard as an apple.
Numbers are more than numbers to him still- they are images with texture and form. It's a magic of childhood. I used to have stories in my head as I played the piano- the keys were more than keys to me. I lost somewhere in the duty of practice. I hope Ali keeps number magic longer.

Alec (I think it was) had colors associated with all the numbers when he was younger... now that he's in Algebra II, perhaps the colors have all run together into grey.
