Imaginative play

I sent the kids into the backyard because the weather is beautiful. (None of that snow of 1.5 weeks ago.) They played and played, making stores and taking on other personas.
Leila ate a banana and threw the skin on the ground. "I'm composting," she said, when I asked her to pick it up. I explained that it wasn't that easy, but she took a little convincing. "It's bad to throw it away!"
Then Ali wanted a banana. When he finished he came back inside with it. "I'm gonna draw eyes on the banana and make it an octopus."
"It sounds like a scary octopus," I told him.
"And a BAD one," he said, somewhat gleefully.
"There are vegetables under the sea, and the banana is an octopus.
He played with it for about 30 seconds, waving in front of me and growling (do octopi growl?) and then, "Now I'm gonna throw it away." And he did.

Later I hear the two of them through the window.
Ali says: "Can you keep a secret?"
Leila: "Uh-huh."
Ali: "Pinky swear?"
Leila: "Uh-huh."
Ali: Just pinky swear, okay?" (He is not doing the motions at all, just asking for a pinky swear. Clearly he doesn't understand it fully.)
Leila: "Uh-huh."
Ali: "Okay. I'm making..hey that's ..... (gets distracted and doesn't follow through with the secret!)
