What in the world?

Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize? Come on.Can't they wait until something is actually accomplished? The prize isn't supposed to be given for ideas. And besides, as H says, isn't he fighting a war right now? I think it's just the committee's way of saying- we like the US president now. But although I have no real problem with Obama himself (apart from the wars), I do have a problem with this. So come on, committee. Next year give the award to someone who has really done something; don't just use it to make a political statement.
Lech Walsea said it well “So soon? Too early. He has no contribution so far.” Check out the video in the above link. Almost exactly what H and I have been saying in the last 10 minutes since we got the news.
(If he's this popular, why couldn't he get the Olympics in Chicago?)

this was a good article about the whole thing: http://features.csmonitor.com/globalnews/2009/10/09/the-international-politics-behind-obamas-nobel-peace-prize/

it IS weird, and obama pretty much said "yeah this is weird". but i don't like the tone a lot of conservative folks have taken that it somehow reflects poorly on obama, since he had nothing to do with getting selected! i know that's not what you're saying, but it makes me glum.

It does appear that Obama has handled this very graciously. It certainly was not he who asked for the award. Who nominated him, though? Wasn't it premature?
