"I hit somebody at school today," Ali informed me quietly. I sat down to talk about it with him. Apparently A had made him mad, and Ali hit him. "Did the teacher give you a time out?" I asked. "No," he said. "Why not?" "I didn't hit him very hard," he said, demonstrating with a soft movement of his hand. "Did A cry?" "Yes.""Did you say sorry?" I asked. "Yes," he said. "I said sorry 2 times."
So I didn't give him a timeout either, just told him not to hit anyone again. "I won't," he promised me firmly.
